Cork V Tipp in Watergrasshill

On Saturday afternoon before the titanic battle between Cork & Tipperary in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Watergrasshill Under 10s and Under 11s played 4 matches against visiting Loughmore-Castleiney GAA from Tipp. This was then followed by our Under 13s who also played against the visitors Under 13s. A nice curtain raiser for the Senior Intercounty encounter later that evening. It was a great day out for our friends from Tipperary en route to the Cork V Tipp game later that evening. Big thanks to Eddie Enright, himself no stranger to Cork V Tipp matches for organising with Loughmore-Castleiney, many thanks also to those who brought cakes and sandwiches, helped out in the club shop and supported the lads, it was a great afternoon of hurling and friendships. Thanks also to Loughmore-Castleiney GAA for travelling and we’ll surely have a return trip-to-Tipp later in the year.

Darkness Into Light

It was inspiring, emotional & heart-warming to see such a crowd support the Darkness Into Light walk last Saturday morning. Leaving Watergrasshill GAA at 4:30am, our community came together and completed a 5km loop around the village and through many of the estates in a show of solidarity with those who have been impacted by the effects of suicide, with the route illuminated by candle-light along the way symbolizing the hope which the dawn light brings. Re-convening back at our clubhouse for tea, cakes and a chat afterwards it was a great occasion. Whilst the club were delighted to play our part, Watergrasshill Community Association & Ber Desmond were once again the driving force behind a great event and our congratulations to them on raising awareness and much needed funds for Pieta.

Under-7’s host Bride Rovers

Well done to our Under 7 boys who hosted our neighbours Bride Rovers last Saturday morning. A great morning of hurling & laughter was had by all. Thanks to Bride Rovers for travelling and thanks to the boys parents also for supporting them.

Under 12 Round-Up

Watergrasshill 4-07 Sarsfields 2-02

Rebel Óg East, Group 6

Another solid performance from the Hill on home turf on Sunday evening in this Rebel Óg East, Group 6 encounter. The Hill started the strongest by getting stuck in and winning the rucks and putting together some great passages of play, getting great scores from the hard work. The back line were outstanding from Luke Ryan in goal to Max Conway, Austin Fahy & Joe Connolly all giving 100%. Ciarán Lee & Fionn Healy in midfield were creating the chances for the forward line where James O'Mahoney, Diarmuid Dara & Sean Dunlea were taking some good scores. So a good evenings work and a great result with outstanding performances from Andrew Welch & Jamie O'Riordan who defended solid throughout the game and a great team performance all round.

St. Catherine’s 0-4 Watergrasshill 4-07

Rebel Óg North, Group 2

Watergrasshill U12 hurlers travelled to Ballynoe on Monday evening to play St Catherine’s in the Rebel Óg North, Section 2 league, coming away with an impressive win to give us 3 wins out of 3 in the league. Starting strong and putting a few early scores on the board to settle into the game before Seán Fenton worked his way through the St. Catherine’s backline to score a great goal and the Hill never looked back from then.

Playing the better hurling all night and putting some great moves and passing together, the hill were getting good scores from this hard work. James McDermott and Ronan Lehane were mopping up every ball St Catherine’s put into the Hill backline. Sam & Robbie O'Leary were driving forward from midfield at every opportunity to get a few scores and Danny Murphy, Cormac McCarthy and Cian Murphy were certainly on form in the forward line too. So a good win on the road and great to see the team gelling together nicely. Well done boys, thanks to the parents for travelling and to St. Catherine's for the game.

Sciath No Scoil boys progress

Congratulations to the Sciath Na Scoil team from Watergrasshill National School who won their semi-final on Monday afternoon and are now off to Páirc Uí Chaoimh for the final. Well done boys, enjoy the final and best of luck.
