Rebel Og East, U12 Div 1 Hurling league

Our U12’s were in action Monday 17th in the Rebel Og East Hurling League with St. Colman’s the visitors to the Hill. In what was a lovely evening for hurling both teams served up a highly entertaining and competitive fair. Against a well drilled, skillfull and tenacious St Colman’s team, our boys had to work hard, and that they just did. After an evenly matched first half, the score at halftime was Watergrasshill 2-3, St. Colman’s 5pts. The second half just like the first, proved to be very close with both teams working extremely hard, on and off the ball. There was some great long range scores from both teams and also excellent free taking on show. Goals tend to be the difference in games and that’s how it panned out, and it was the Hill who made the most of the chances in the end, rattling the net on four occasions in total. It still wasn’t plan sailing in the second half and the lads had to work their socks off right up to the final whistle in ensure they took the win. It was a great team performance from the Hill and credit also goes to St. Colman’s who made us work hard for this win in the end. Final score, Watergrasshill 4-7, St. Colmans 1-11. Well done boys, Hon the Hill

Munster Poc Fada

Huge congratulations to our u14 player Cian Cronin-O'Neill who won the u16 Cork Poc Fada competition recently in Garryvoe. On the back of this win he went on to represent Cork in the Munster section of the Poc Fada Munster Competition which was held over the Kerry Head Ballyheigue, on Saturday June 15th. It's been some week for the club with the Feile win, but an even bigger week now for Cian himself who was part of the victorious Feile team. Cian is a very skilful hurler but also possesses an amazing powerful swing for someone so young in age. A fantastic achievement by Cian Cronin O Neill winning the Cork competition and then going on to finish 4th representing Cork in the Munster Poc Fada in Kerry. Competing against 16 year olds from around Munster, finishing 4th is a huge achievement considering he currently plays u14. Well done Cian, you have done yourself, your family and your club proud.

Junior A East Cork Hurling League Result
Watergrasshill 2-16, Fr O Neill’s 0-17pts. Great win by the lads, well done. Next up for the Juniors is the 2019, Junior A Hurling Championship (Jamesy Kelleher Cup). Our opponents are Carraig Na Bhfear and the game is down for decision on Saturday 22nd June in Castlelyons, throw in 2.30pm. Please come out and support the team. Best of luck lads.

Hard Luck

Hard luck to the Glenville U11 footballers who were in the final phase of the John Kerins tournament last weekend in Pairc Ui Rinn. The boys won their quarterfinal against Na Piarsaigh but just came up short in the semi-final, losing out to St Nicks after extra time (who would be beaten in the final by Douglas later in the afternoon). While the U11’s were in action the Glenville U10’s were down in Dromtarriffe in the final phase of the Brian Cronin memorial tournament. Having qualified the previous weekend these lads played three group games, winning two against Kilmurray and Duarigle Gaels and losing one narrowly to St. Peters, who went on and won the final. Hard luck to both teams who were well represented by boys from the Hill.

Watergrasshill Community First Responders

An information evening is being held on Thursday 27th June at 8pm in The First Fruits Art Centre in Watergrasshill. The purpose of this event is for the National First Responder Network to inform the community of the setting up and training for a Cardiac First Responder group for the area. With a number of automated external defibrillators (AED’s) in the community, establishing a CFR group is the next step forward. Please consider if you would like to get involved and play a vital, perhaps lifesaving, role in the community
