Watergrasshill Legend gave his all
12/11/2013
Watergrasshill club lost a great servant recently with the passing of Jim Sarsfield affectionately known as (sars)
A much loved individual, he gave sterling service to the East Cork Club. He was a lifelong member winning an East Cork junior B medal in 1952, However it was as a selector and administrator that his qualities come to forefront
He was a member of the management team that steered the club to the county junior hurling title back in 1974. He was also a selector of St Bartholemewâs minor team for many years an amalgamation of the hill and bride rovers
He was a selector with various Imokilly Hurling and Football teams and following the passing of his brother Felix in 1985 he became the hill county board selector
He was club chairman from 1987 to 1989 and his tireless work for the club is one of the main reasons for itâs strength to day
Club lotto or county board draws he was all wayâs a willing contributor and for those of us attending matches regularly in East Cork and beyond he was a constant presence
At the time of his death he was president of the hill club and vice president of the east cork Board and of the Glenville football club
He was hugely respected throughout the county as was his late brother FELIX two men who made the hill club what it is today a club of great standing
Outside the GAA he was a member of the Cork County Council from 1974 to 1985, He was a man of varied interests but his passion was for the GAA and his beloved Watergrasshill Club
May he rest in peace
