Under 12’s in Naas
Our U-12 Hurlers travelled to play Naas of Kildare last weekend in Manor Kilbride. The lads Played four 20/25 minutes games. The games were tough and physical with some great passages of hurling played throughout, along with few good scores and solid performances too from both teams. It was a great experience for the lads to play a team outside of Cork and to come up against a different style and more physical game of hurling. So a great day out and good bonding trip on the bus. Thanks to Nass for hosting and a putting a lovely BBQ after too. Well done to the lads, their mentor team and parents for organising and supporting the trip, one which the lads enjoyed and benefitted from.
The Hill u12 hurlers also hosted our neighbours Bride Rovers last week in the last league game of this section of games. Starting the game on the front foot we got some good scores from Cormac McCarthy & Sam O'Leary after hard work from Danny Murphy and Robbie O'Leary. Ciarán Lee was winning a lot of balls on the wing and some of the passing was great to see. But before half time we conceded a goal which keep Bride Rovers in the game. The visitors came out fighting in the second half a scored a couple of goals to turn the game on its head . But in fairness the lads they dug in and fought hard to get the draw in the end with some great defending from James McDermott, Ronan Lehane and Donagh McHugh solid in goals. It was great game of hurling to be involved in. So a good league for the lads with 3 wins and a draw , so back to the training ground for a few weeks before the next section of league begins.
Well done to the lads on their work thus far & we wish them well for the rest of the season
Our last U12 hurling league game of group 6 was played last week at home against Midleton. After a slow start the lads got into the game after 10 / 15 minutes and never looked back with Austen Fahy & Joe Connolly very solid in the defense and with Max Conway working hard in midfield supplying ball to our forwards of who were starting to get on the scoreboard. In the second half we were in control of the game throughout and kept the game moving fast with good passing and support play from Ben Lewis & Andrew Welch driving forward and setting up scores for our forwards of Fionn Healy & Diarmuid Dara and the lads kept pushing for scores to the very end with all 16 players giving a 100 percent all through. So it was great to finish out the league with a win. And was great to finish top of the league in both groups also with 30 kids getting valuable game time over the league and a lot of positives to take from our league run. Well done to both our Under 12 teams for a great start to their respective campaigns.
Fé14 into Championship Final
Watergrasshill U14s hosted St Catherine's on Friday evening the 23rd in the semifinal of East Cork Div 1 championship. Having only defeated them in football the week before, the lads knew they were in for a dogfight and that's exactly what they got. Watergrasshill started strongly, registering two goals in quick succession but halfway through the first half, St Catherine's found their stride and got 2 goals of their own. In the final ten minutes before halftime, Watergrasshill had no answer to the visitors' dominance and the score line stood at 2-6 to 2-4 to the hosts. The Hill picked up the work rate in the second half and pulled away for a while but St. Catherine's were resolute and with 5 minutes to go, Watergrasshill found themselves trailing by 4 points. Thankfully, cool heads prevailed and a goal and 2 points were worked by the Hill boys to get them into the final against Kiltha Óg. The Watergrasshill lads have great respect for the St Catherine's young team who fought to the very end. Final score: 6-9 to 6-8
Cork U-20 Stars visit WGH
A huge thanks to Cork U20 brothers Adam & Darragh O Sullivan from Ballinhassig who popped in to the U12s training session on Monday evening and brought with them the Munster & All Ireland cups.
It was such a lovely surprise for our lads who had plenty of questions and enjoyed the buzz & variety of drills and skills Adam & Darragh showcased not to mind the sliotars that were gifted.
