Poc Fada in the sun
On bank holiday Monday last, Watergrasshill GAA hosted a Poc Fada event in support of The Walsh Family from Killeagh. It was a cracking day of activity which saw boys, girls, men, women, players and non-players compete in a family event with all proceeds going to the Walsh Family fundraiser in conjunction with Killeagh GAA. The weather was cracking and there were spot prizes, cold drinks, goody bags and entertainment galore. It was great to see so many from the club and indeed beyond support this worthy event and special thanks to Dáire O’Leary and Brian Roche who presented prizes & medals to the underage winners as well as signed jerseys, sliotars and hurleys a plenty. Thank you to everyone who supported this event and big thanks to John Kennedy for MC and entertainment duties and to Jenni Fouhy, John O’Regan, Angela Fitzgerald and Ber Desmond for organising such a great event for a very worthy cause.
Under 11’s on the road
Well done to our U-11’s who travelled to Glen Rovers last week. A great workout for the team who are continuing to improve week on week and really enjoying their hurling. Special shout-out to Naoise Bowe who filled in on goals when our keeper took a knock.
Championship Preview
The warm weather can only mean one thing – championship season. Looking ahead to the under 15 championship which starts on 3rd July, we are in a group with Youghal, St. Catherine’s and St. Colman’s. Remaining group games are on 17th and 31st July respectively with the semi-finals and finals penciled in for 14th and 28th August. This promises to be a cracking competition if the recent Féile was anything to go by, with very little between the teams & we wish the lads the very best of luck.
In under 17 action, we’re drawn with Whitechurch, Fr. O’Neill’s, St. Vincent’s and Castlelyons. Group games are starting on July 16th and run through until 13th September with semi-finals and finals penciled in for 24th September and 8th October respectively. Again, this promises to be very tough group with just a single league game played, form is tough to gauge. No doubt, Sars will field their under 16 P1 team so will be strong and with Lisgoold’s James O’Leary featuring for Cork minors this year, they will also have a big say in the direction of this year’s competition.
Lotto
There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot this week. Numbers drawn were 6, 22, 27 & 29. Lucky dip winners are Donal Lehane, Pat & Margaret Carmody, Elaine McCarthy and Brian Fenton. Congrats to you all. Next week's jackpot is €4,650 and draw will take place on 12th May in The Hut bar.
Tickets are on sale in some of the village businesses like The Hut Bar, The Fir Tree, Johnny's Shop and our new Lotto stand in Ross's Centra. Tickets can also be purchased on-line via our club website (www.watergrasshillgaa.ie). The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and supporters of the Watergrasshill GAA Club Lotto. The Club Lotto is a vital source of income for the running of all our teams within the Club and for future development of our facilities, so we ask you to please support it if you are in a position to do so. Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win.
