Action Round-Up

It was a bumper weekend of action with teams travelling, hosting and representing on the inter-county stage.

Starting with our Fé7 boys who had a great morning at a blitz in Blackrock on Saturday, 3 teams played 4 matches-each.  Very competitive, lots of tired bodies after it.

Also on Saturday morning, our Fé9 hurlers played Whitechurch, brilliant effort from all the lads great to see them developing and enjoying themselves. Thanks to also to Seán, Charlie & Colm who stepped up from Fé8 to help the lads out and played brilliantly.

Our Fé10 boys hosted neighbors Bride Rovers on Saturday afternoon. In 3 very competitive games, with some great skills on show from the lads as well as some friendly neighborly rivalry. Well done to the boys and thanks to Bride Rovers for travelling.

Our U11’s made the trip to Na Piarsaigh on Saturday. Playing two games both Hill teams acquitted themselves very well. The boys were tuned in from the start and played the best of the hurling. Great team work, movement and score taking shaded both games in our favour. A great bunch of lads and building nicely to next year’s first year of competitive hurling. Well done coaches and well done to the boys and thanks to Na Piarsaigh for hosing.

Rebel Óg East, Fé12 Group 6

Youghal 4-07 (19) Watergrasshill 3-05 (14)

Our Fé12 boys travelled to Youghal on Sunday evening. The concession of two early goals and the lads taking some time to settle into the game saw Youghal having the better of the first 15/20 minutes of this game. The Hill began working their way into the game and scored a cracking goal from James O’Mahoney one of two he scored after a good work from Fionn Healy & Andrew Welch. With Luke Ryan’s puckouts finding their men and getting a few more scores before the break the Hill were back in the game.

With a few positional switches in the second half, the Hill played much better and had most of the play, James O’Mahoney having a stormer at center forward helped with good defensive play from Donnacha Carrol & Joe Connolly. Continuing to work hard, Ciarán Lee in midfield and Diarmuid Dara now full forward causing problems we were unlucky not to get a result from this great second half performance, so well done to all involved and to the parents for traveling down and giving great support.

Rebel Óg North, Fé12 Group 2

Watergrasshill 3-10 (19) Kilworth Araglen Óg 2-08 (14)

A hard fought win at home on Monday evening in good entertaining game of hurling. Similar to our Group 6 team, the group 2 team conceded 2 early goals again this evening not dealing with high ball in around goalmouth, but the lads working hard to get back into game James mac the driving force at the back and Seán Fenton picking off a few nice points to keeps Watergrasshill in the game at half time. The second half was a cracking game of hurling both teams looking for the win, with Darragh Noonan & Robbie O’Leary starting to get on top around the middle of the field and Sam O’Leary & Cormac McCarthy starting picking off few points to get us in front. A couple of goals from Seán Fenton & Danny Murphy saw Watergrasshill win out in the end, so again a good weekend of hurling for these lads with 29 players seeing plenty game time and the improvement is great to see . Thanks to Kilworth for a great sporting game and a very good ref too, and great support from the parents as usual.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Jack Counihan, Leon Clarke O’Shea and David Barry who lined out for Cork Fé15 last weekend in Galway. Just rewards for this group of young men whose work ethic and dedication not Gaelic games is second to none. We are delighted for the lads and congratulate them and their families and of course wish them well in all their future endeavors.

Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win.

Club Astro handed over

Anyone who had driven past Watergrasshill GAA recently can’t but have noticed our new Astro Pitch development. Making the best use of a limited site, an 1800m2 Flood-lit Astro pitch and adjacent hurling bays were installed. This development is the next step in a multi-stage capital program for the club, in which we aim to provide the best possible facilities for the club & our community. Although they won't want to be named, there's huge credit due to Don O'Riordan, Barry Joyce, Dan Linehan, Niall O'Riordan and Kieran O'Keeffe who were the team behind this development. It will provide a great facility foe players of every age and a huge asset to the community, especially during the winter months. Rest assured, we will have an official opening late in the year once the weather improves and maybe a special guest or two to help us cut the ribbon.

And finally……

And finally, congratulations to our Fé10 coach, Junior Hurler, Camogie Coach and all round legend Liam Tracey who ran sub 3hrs at the London Marathon on Sunday. So fast, Barry Joyce almost missed the photo. Well done Liam, hopefully you can enjoy some well-earned rest.
