Weekly Notes 23.10.2022

Last Team Standing

Our last team standing in Championship action are our Under 16 boys, who take on Lisgoold this weekend in Round 1 of their Championship series and we wish them the very best of luck.

Respect The Referee Day

Last weekend saw the national “Respect The Referee Day” organized by the GAA. The day was organized to allow the GAA to raise the profile of referees and, more importantly, an awareness among the rest of our members about the level of respect that we expect when it comes to supporting match officials. To be the embodiment of the GAA manifesto, “Where We All Belong” requires that no one is left out or left behind. The people who act as match officials ensure your games take place, and without them, there would be no games. Referees & Match Officials are just as important to the GAA as every player, coach, committee member and volunteer. They are dedicated to Gaelic games, have a passion for their vocation and have families who are proud of the contribution they make. How we treat them says something about us and the only treatment we should tolerate is one of utmost respect.

Upcoming AGM

Members, supporters, and friends are all invited to attend the 2022 AGM of Watergrasshill Hurling Club on Thursday 24th November at 8:30 pm in Watergrasshill National School.

Ahead of an exciting year for the club with new capital projects planned and huge growth in player numbers, our AGM will ensure we are set-up to support the community in 2023 and beyond.

Officer or Executive nominations should be made to Secretary.watergrasshill.cork@gaa.ie before 6pm November 1st. We look forward o seeing you all there.

Under 8 Monster Blitz

Last weekend, it was the turn of our Under 8 boys to finish up their year playing in the Rebel Óg monster blitz in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The end of season blitz organized by Rebel Óg in Pairc Uí Chaoimh have been a massive success, with the boys experiencing playing in Pairc Uí Chaoimh but also the 4g surface means that clubs could preserve their pitches for the remaining weeks of the year for competitive action.  With over 5000 kids playing in the blitz over the past few weeks, Kudos to Colm Crowley and the Rebel Óg team for their organization.

For their part, our Under 8 boys had a great morning of hurling, playing 3 matches and getting plenty of game time. Well done boys and keep up the hurling over the winter. Thanks also to the boys coaches Tony Sheehan, Paul O’Flynn, Niall O’Connor and Claire Lehane and the parents who have supported the boys throughout the year.

Lotto

There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot this week. Numbers drawn were 5, 18, 19 & 27. Lucky dip winners are Eric Daly, Ber O’Callaghan, Jerry Fenton & Nora O’Flaherty. Congrats to you all. Next week's jackpot is €4,100 and draw will take place 31st October in The Hut Bar. Tickets are on sale in some of the village businesses like The Hut Bar, The Fir Tree, Johnny's Shop and our new Lotto stand in Ross's Centra. Tickets can also be purchased on-line via our club website (www.watergrasshillgaa.ie). The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and supporters of the Watergrasshill GAA Club Lotto. The Club Lotto is a vital source of income for the running of all our teams within the Club and for future development of our facilities, so we ask you to please support it if you are in a position to do so. Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win.
