Fé15 boys bow out of County Championship

Rebel Óg Coiste Fé15 D2 County Championship Semi-Final

Watergrasshill 3-07 V 4-07 Kinsale

Our Under 15 boys were unlucky to lose out to Kinsale last Sunday in the Rebel Óg Coiste Fé15 D2 County Championship Semi-Final played in horrendous conditions in Belgooly. In a game where whichever team dealt with the conditions best were likely to come out on top, it was nip and tuck throughout. Kinsale certainly started the stronger, but our boys recovered well having conceded two early goals with a cracker of a goal from Tadhg McCarthy. With Seán Callanan starting at full forward – it wasn’t long before he too rattled the net to bag the first of his two goals (one in each half). On the 15 minute mark, it was 1-3 to 2-1 and were creating chances but neither side was dominant. As the half-time break approached, the hill were now 4 points clear, but the concession of 1-2 just before the break left Kinsale ahead by the narrowest of margins 3-2 to 2-6. In the second half, the deteriorating conditions hampered both teams, but Kinsale managed to extend their lead out to 3 points. Try as they did, the ‘hill boys just couldn’t put away the few chances that were created and thus Kinsale ran out winners by 3-07 to 4-07.

Although the lads were devastated at the final whistle, everyone involved with the club are so proud of their efforts this campaign and so should they. Every single player from 1 to 22 has given their all not just on Sunday, but throughout the entire campaign. The heart they displayed on Sunday is a hallmark of the group, they play as one team and that ethos will surely stand to them in years to come. Chin up lads, you claimed East Cork honours this year and although county honours evaded you, we’re sure you’ll be knocking on the door again next year.

Watergrasshill men, down under

It was great to see some Watergrasshill men star for the Gaelic Games Victoria team who took part in the Australasian State Games held in Victoria recently. Sean O’Leary, Darragh O’Callaghan and Shane O’Regan were all part of the Victoria team who went all the way to the final losing out to New South Wales 2-15 to 4-12. Congrats to Sean and Shane too, who both picked up All-Star awards for the tournament. Whilst Sean has been with Garryowen GAC for a number of years now, both Darragh and Shane have just moved this year and have settled right in. It’s good to see all the lads still hurling we wish them continued success.

Under 7 Monster Blitz

Our Under 7 boys finished up their year playing in the Rebel Óg monster blitz in Páirc Úi Chaoimh last Saturday. With 1,000 kids playing for 200 teams across 300 5-a-side matches, it certainly was a busy morning. Well done to the boys on a super year of hurling and big thank you to the parents and coaches for supporting the boys throughout the year. The kids are the next generation of ‘hill hurlers and the energy, fun and enjoyment of the game is great to see.
