Final Places Secured

This past week, both our Fé17 and Fé15 teams secured final spots in their respective Championship competitions. Fé17 boys will face Nemo in the final of the Rebel Óg East D1 Shield and the Fé15 boys will face Cobh in the final of the Rebel Óg East D2 Cup.

On Wednesday evening last, our Fé15 boys confirmed their place in the final with a solid 8-14 to 2-11 win over Erin’s Own. Great display from the lads with work-rate and accuracy to the fore. The boys now face Cobh in the final, tentatively fixed for October 8th. Well done on a great display lads and best of luck in the final.

On Friday evening last, our Fé17 team overcame Blackrock 2-18 to 4-9 in their shield semi-final. Great to see the lads progress as they’ve had a tough couple of years. A display full of the heart and attitude we’ve grown to expect from this group saw them overcome the concession of 2 penalties during the game and dig-deep to get the result. Well done lads and again, very best of luck in the final against Nemo, tentatively fixed for October 2nd.

A massive game of another type awaits our Junior hurlers this weekend. Following a disappointing season, they now face a relegation play-off against Carrigtwohill on Sunday 25th September. Whilst results haven’t gone their way during the year, the lads have battled through and stuck together. We wish them the very best on Sunday & would ask everyone young and old to get out and support the lads in this crucial game. Good luck lads.

Fé-10 boys host Bride Rovers

Our under 10 boys hosted neighbours Bride Rovers last Thursday in some great games in Glenville. With 24 boys playing some super hurling, all getting lots of game time and giving it their all. Super to see the lads improve week-on-week and thanks to the U-9's too who helped out on the night.

Cork Culture Night

The 17th edition of Culture Night will take place on this Friday 23rd September 2022. Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir is brought to you by the Arts Council; it is a national moment, celebrating culture, creativity and the arts and seeks to actively promote the belief that this rich and varied culture is alive, treasured and nurtured in people’s lives, today and every day. It is delivered nationwide in cities, towns, villages and rural locations as well as online and through various media partners. Over 1.1 million people engaged with Culture Night in 2021.

This year, we are delighted that Watergrasshill has been chosen as a Culture Hub and will host over 20 events across 6 venues in the village. There’s something for everyone from Basher Bacon – Children’s Puppet show & Jim Ryan story-telling in O’ Mahony’s, Circus Factory in Cúinne an Máistir to A Land Divided by Carraig na Bhfear drama society and Palatra / Greenshine Gig in the First Fruits Arts Center. Some events do need to be booked in advance, so please check out www.culturenightcorkcounty.ie or the Watergrasshill Community Association Facebook page for further details.

It promises to be a great occasion, so we recommend everyone, young and old, go and experience some of what our local community has to offer. Great credit must go to Watergrasshill Community Association and the Culture Night committee for their great work in getting the event organized and all of those who have volunteered to help both before and during the event.
