U-7 team play in Páirc Uí Chaoimh

The excitement was palpable on Saturday morning last when our under 7 team played in the Cork GDA organized monster blitz on the 4G pitch at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. In what can only be described as food for the soul of every GAA fan in the county, over 1000 kids from 160 teams playing 240 matches brought energy, excitement and fun to the venue.

Our under 7 group have been working really hard during the year and it is great to see them experience playing in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and make some great memories, along with their parents who were keeping a proud watchful eye from the overlooking stand. Well done to all the boys who have enjoyed their year’s hurling, made great friends and developed some fundamental movement skills along the way.

Thanks you also to the parents who bring the boys along to training every week and support the coaching team who give their time to support our club, our community and our games. Go raibh mile maith agaibh go léir.

Intermediates pipped at the post

Despite conceding a goal in the first minute of their Co-Op Superstores 2021 Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship game against Valley Rovers on Sunday evening, our intermediates settled very well thereafter to lead 1-5 to 1-2 at the first water break, with Seán Desmond rattling the net after 12 minutes. We really hit a purple patch after the water break to take a 1-10 to 1-4 lead into the break. There was little hint of the drama to come however when, despite a resilient Valley’s performance we continued to lead by 1-13 to 1-09 at the 2nd water break.  The decisive period came from the 23rd minute however when Valleys notched up 1-3 without reply to put the game beyond us, winning on a score line of 1-16 to 2-15.

Hard luck to the lads who deserved more from the game, the majority of which they led. Everyone associated with the club are extremely proud of this group of men who work, battle and sacrifice to represent us all.

There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot this week. Numbers drawn were 6, 13, 21 & 32. Lucky dip winners are Donal Fitzgerald, Anil Babu Yarlagadda, Jerry Fenton & Davy + Tom c/o The Hut. Congrats to you all. Next week's jackpot is a fantastic €10,200 and draw will take place Monday 18th October. Tickets are on sale in some of the village businesses, like The Hut Bar, The Fir Tree, Centra & Johnny's Shop. Tickets can also be purchased on-line via our club website (www.watergrasshillgaa.ie). The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and supporters of the Watergrasshill GAA Club Lotto. The Club Lotto is a vital source of income for the running of all our teams within the Club and for future development of our facilities, so we ask you to please support it if you are in a position to do so. Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win.

Pitch Signage & Advertising Opportunity

As we enter a new decade, we do so with great optimism and excitement here at Watergrasshill GAA Club. Later this decade we will celebrate our centenary year, which will be a special milestone. While it's important to celebrate the past and the history of the club, it’s also important we look forward to the future. With this in mind, the club will shortly be undertaking a development project, to prepare the club for the future and further position ourselves at the center of our community. Part of this project will be the development of our existing club grounds. To that end we will endeavor to raise a revenue stream from advertising, while giving businesses the opportunity to advertise their services and reach a wider audience within our community. With the playing numbers on the increase our facility will be a busy spot over the coming years, and we would love to have your name and business positioned in the hearts and minds of all those who visit on a weekly basis. We are offering advertising space via pitch signage, 3000mm wide x 750mm high. These are a 5-year gloss laminate, flash mounted to 0.2mm skin diabond sign. If you would be interested in this opportunity to advertise and support our club, please contact Claire O Leary on 087-6239297 or any member of the club who can provide assistance.
