Successful Féile for Watergrasshill

As predicted it certainly was a whirlwind of hurling action during this past week. The weekend ended with disappointment for the Cork senior hurlers against Limerick in Croke Park but for Watergrasshill we had plenty to cheer about.

On Wednesday 18th we had Seán Desmond and Dáire O’Leary involved with the Cork U-20’s which saw Cork beating Galway in the All-Ireland final. This was Dáire’s second win with the U-20’s having just won the delayed 2020 final in July defeating Dublin where Shane O’Regan was also involved for Watergrasshill.

On Saturday 21st we had Brendan Lehane and Michael O’Driscoll involved with the Cork minor team who defeated Galway in the All-Ireland final in Thurles. That’s a tally of 6 All-Ireland medals returned to Watergrasshill in just 6 weeks. Everyone involved with Cnocán Na Biolrai would like to extend our congratulations to all 5 lads and to their families on their achievements. Not only were the lads focusing on All-Ireland finals – they also helped out with Cúl Camp duties in Watergrasshill, which is testament to the character of all these boys who are inspiring the next generation of kids to strive to achieve their potential.

In club underage action – the highlight was the much anticipated return of Féile. Postponed in 2020 and change in 2021 to U-15 to ensure that last year’s teams were accommodated, this years format was a little changed to previous years. Gone was the much anticipated player exchange and trip to counties afar, replaced by local tournaments against Cork opposition with every club encouraged to send a team in alignment with the No Player Left Behind ethos of this year’s competition.  Our boys were based in Mayfield for their round-robin games facing opposition from

Their first game was against Aghabullogue and the Hill won on a scoreline of 3-05 to 2-01. The second game was against Mayfield and the Hill won this game 3-06 to 0-04. The third game was against Erin's Own and the Hill lost this game 1-05 to 0-02.

The combination of games resulted in 3 of the 4 teams in our section finish with 2 wins each, so the rules stated that the team that conceded the least over their 3 games would determine the winner. Watergrasshill had conceded the least and were declared the winners of our side of the competition.

Crosshaven won the other half of the competition and the Hill played them in the Quarter Final. The Hill started strongly and held the advantage for most of the game and won the Féile Quarter Final on a score line of 4-10 to 0-07. They now proceed to the Semi-final which will be held in September.

Thanks to Glenville GAA for the jerseys which we used in a colour clash with Mayfield.

Pitch Signage & Advertising Opportunity

As we enter a new decade, we do so with great optimism and excitement here at Watergrasshill GAA Club. Later this decade we will celebrate our centenary year, which will be a special milestone. While it's important to celebrate the past and the history of the club, it’s also important we look forward to the future. With this in mind, the club will shortly be undertaking a development project, to prepare the club for the future and further position ourselves at the center of our community. Part of this project will be the development of our existing club grounds. To that end we will endeavor to raise a revenue stream from advertising, while giving businesses the opportunity to advertise their services and reach a wider audience within our community. With the playing numbers on the increase our facility will be a busy spot over the coming years, and we would love to have your name and business positioned in the hearts and minds of all those who visit on a weekly basis. We are offering advertising space via pitch signage, 3000mm wide x 750mm high. These are a 5-year gloss laminate, flash mounted to 0.2mm skin diabond sign. If you would be interested in this opportunity to advertise and support our club, please contact Claire O Leary on 087-6239297 or any member of the club who can provide assistance.
