Intermediates bow out of the Championship at Quarter Final stage

On Saturday last our Intermediates made their Championship exit at the hands of Courcey Rovers. After three group wins from three and narrowly missing out on a semi-final spot on scoring difference, we found ourselves with a tricky assignment in the quarter finals. The management and players went in confident after three good team performances and hopes were high.  Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be our day and Courcey Rovers the 2018 defeated finalists got the better of us. To be fair they were full value for their victory and put in an impressive display. It was a game where we simply never got going and our shooting betrayed us at critical times. In the opening quarter we had two very good goal chances and instead of registering scores here we fell behind to a clinical and lively Courcey forward line that put the deficit at 1-11 to 3 points at the break. It appeared an uphill battle for the Hill in the second half but those goal chances couple with some scorable misses, and the fact we only had two scores from play (from Shane Óg O’Regan) gave hope if the lads could play to their obvious potential, we may draw back the deficit. On the restart, we started well with Shane Óg putting the sliotar in the net, after he doubled first-time on a cross from Kieran O’Keeffe. Through the accurate free taking of Shane O’Regan, we clawed back the deficit and two more goal chances went a begging which on another day would have fallen for us. However, the nearest we could get was five points.

A second yellow card for Courcey’s wing-back at the death failed to upset their momentum and they hung on for a deserved victory on the day and now a semi-final meeting with Castlelyons.  Final score Courcey Rovers 1-21, Watergrasshill 1-15. Hard luck to our lads on the day. You boys gave us a great few weeks hurling entertainment. We look forward positively to a bright future ahead no doubt. Keep the heads high, everyone associated with the club are very proud.

Pitch Signage & Advertising Opportunity

As we enter a new decade, we do so with great optimism and excitement here at Watergrasshill GAA Club. Later this decade we will celebrate our centenary year, which will be a special milestone. While it's important to celebrate the past and the history of the club, its also important we look forward to the future. With this in mind, the club will shortly be undertaking a development project, to prepare the club for the future and further position ourselves at the centre of our community. Part of this project, will be the development of our existing club grounds. To that end we will endeavour to raise a revenue stream from advertising, while giving businesses the opportunity to advertise their services and reach a wider audience within our community. With the playing numbers on the increase our facility will be a busy spot over the coming years and we would love to have your name and business positioned in the hearts and minds of all those who visit on a weekly basis. We are offering advertising space via pitch signage, 3000mm wide x 750mm high. These are a 5-year gloss laminate, flash mounted to 0.2mm skin diabond sign. If you would be interested in this opportunity to advertise and support our club, please contact Claire O Leary on 087-6239297 or any member of the club who can provide assistance.
