1977 Memories Watergrasshill Camogie Club   27/04/2020

1977 was a most memorable year for the Camogie club when the Intermediate team captained by Mary O’Leary were victorious in both Championship and League, beating Sarsfields and Aghabullogue in their respective finals. As a result of these triumphs, the team attained senior status.

Match Report: Watergrasshill 6-10 to Sarsfields 1-2
The Hill girls were pre-match favourites and took an early lead with two Mary O’Leary points, but Sars enjoying the advantage of a home venue, quickly replied with a Marie Barry goal. The winners soon asserted their superiority and with the help of a further 1-3 from Mary O’Leary and 1-1 from Angela Higgins, they led 2-6 to 1-1 at the interval. Sars put on strong pressure early in the second half but made little headway against the top form Hill defence. Watergrasshill, hurling well throughout the field, ran out comprehensive winners.
