County Final beckons for U14’s

This Saturday October 12^th all roads lead to Castlelyons as our Under 14’s renew their rivalry with St. Catherine’s and both go head to head in the Rebel Og U14 D1 County Final. It’s a chance for the Hill to get one over St.Catherines who took the honours in the East Cork final a few weeks back, having beaten them earlier in the competition. Since then our boys had great wins against Ballinhassig and most recently Cobh as they navigated their way in the county competition to set up this mouth-watering tie. In the recent semi final they defeated Cobh, 3-12 to 0-13pts.The Hill led from the throw-in and got a dream start with 1-02 on the board before Cobh opened their account. For the remainder of the first-half, both teams traded scores but the boys from the Hill held the early advantage to lead at half-time by four points 2-06 to 0-08. The second-half was another tight game. Cobh got the first score with an early point before the Hill replied with two more points. Cobh responded with two more points before Watergrasshill hit a purple patch scoring 1-03 with no reply to extend their lead to nine points. A further two points from Cobh and one for the Hill saw the game finish Watergrasshill 3-12 (21) Cobh 0-13. So it’s on to Saturday and facing St Catherine's for the third time in this competition. With both Catherine's and the Hill having beaten each other once in the competition to date, it promises to be an exciting Final. Very best of luck to the team and management. Hon the Hill.

Juvenile Activity

Our U9s made the short trip out to Lisgoold and took on their hosts in a great game of hurling. There was some great skills on show and some great scores. Well done boys on a great morning and most of all for playing with a smile on your faces, having fun and giving great enjoyment to all in attendance. 

Our U10’s welcomed Ballincollig to the Hill recently, where two 9 a side teams did battle. The lads put in a good show against two strong Ballincollig sides. They showed great fighting spirit working hard for one another throughout. Well done boys on a good mornings hurling. Remember Brendan’s “homework” and plenty of hurling at home and in school.

Our U11’s travelled to Blackrock to take on the Rockies in two 11 a side games. The lads got two competitive games that tested the skill levels so a very useful trip. They put in a good effort throughout, hurling very well in spells. Well done boys, keep up the good work. Thanks as always to members of the U10’s who travel with this group. Congratulations

Congrats to Darragh & the two Shanes who are part of the Imokilly squad and march on to another senior county final after defeating the Barr’s in the semi-final at the weekend on a scoreline of 3-19 (28) to 1-19 (22). Up next in the final is Glen Rovers so the winners in 2015 and 2016 take on the winners in 2017 and 2018. Can the East Cork outfit make it three in a row? Best of luck in the final lads.

Hard luck

Hard Luck to the Watergrasshill Junior Football Girls this week who lost against Midelton in the East Cork Final. It was their last outing of 2019 for the Football & Camogie in Junior & Intermediate. Even though the year didn't bring any silverware the girls had an excellent year in both competitions and will only grow stronger for next year. Well done to all involved from the Men’s Club.

Lotto

There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot this week. Numbers drawn were 8, 17, 19 & 28. €30 lucky dip winners are John Fouhy, Eoin & Alisa O Reilly, Tommy O Keefee, Donie & Tom (c/o The Hut) . Slow Down

Watergrasshill Community Association in conjunction with Watergrasshill National School Parents Association are embarking on a VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROJECT for the village & NEED YOUR HELP. The figure for Sept 2019 travelling in both directions on the school road ONLY was 326,737 vehicles. HUGE number. And this is just one road into our village, there are 4 others (Old Glanmire Road, Glenville Road, Fermoy Road & back of The Hut Bar). Scarily 46,049 vehicles exceeded the 50km/h speed limit on the road outside the National School in September alone. The investment in the road speed signs have given us the relevant tools to obtain these accurate statistics, together we must now take action. The GAA club is fully supportive of this project and we ask all members of the community and those from outside who travel through our village on regular occasions to also please support this.
