Winning start in Abernethy Cup

Our intermediates have progressed to the quarter finals of the Abernethy Cup by defeating Aghada 4-19 to 0-10pts. A superb first half performance proved to be the difference with Shane O Regan Og scoring a fifteen minute hat trick in the opening period. We got off to a blistering start, scoring 1-3 in the opening five minutes, with Shane contributing 1-1. Aghada got their opening score of the game after six minutes and shortly followed up with a second to leave the game with ten minutes gone in Lisgoold, Watergrasshill leading 1-3-0-2. Aghada  tagged on two more points in the final twenty minutes of the half as we dominated, with Shane completing a first half hat trick after just eighteen minutes of play. The third goal was especially good, breaking away from not one, not two but three backs to fire home. Shane finished up with 3-4 in first period while his name sake Shane O’Regan also contributed 0-5. At half time Watergrasshill led 3-12 to 0-4. Shane Og picked where left off in the first, reopening his account after just thirty seconds. Midfielder Anthony Cronin got his name on the score board after thirty five minutes of play to extend the lead to nineteen. With thirty seven minutes played , Shane O’Regan Og made his way off the pitch after a man of the match performance being replaced by Tom Dinan. Aghada upped their game over the next ten minutes of play, scoring four out of the next five scores. However, they couldn’t maintain control of the encounter as Watergrasshill dominated the final quarter out scoring Aghada 1-3-0-2, the goal coming from a free from Paddy O’Regan which dropped just under the crossbar into the top right hand corner of the net. That goal would turn out to be the final score of the game. A superb first half won Watergrasshill the game, it finished in the Abernethy Cup Watergrasshill 4-19-0–10.

Team Activity

It was a quite week on the games front last week but our U7’s played host to a 4 team blitz last Saturday morning in the Hill. Castlelyons, St. Catherines and Whitechurch were our visitors. It was a great mornings hurling and football played in lovely conditions. There was great skills on display, showing the boys practice is certainly paying off. Most important of all everyone had great fun throughout. Sincere thanks to the mentors for organising the blitz, to the parents that dropped lovely sandwiches and baked goods and treats for the kids, and the Mom’s who helped out with teas and coffee’s. A mighty mornings work, well done all.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Imokilly senior hurlers who defeated Midelton at the weekend in the senior hurling championship on a score line of 0-34 to 4-16.  Next up is a mouth-watering prospect and a clash with Sar’s. Best of luck.
