Team Activity

Our minors had a good run out this week, taking on Carrigaline in a challenge game played in the Hill. The lads put in a very strong performance, working hard on and off the ball. Thank you to the U15s and U16s players who are to key fielding a Minor team and to Jerome Buttimer, Stephen Cronin and Andrew O'Callaghan for their help with the Minors. Final score was, Watergrasshill 4-18 (30) Carrigaline 3-13 (22).

Our U8 hurlers travelled to Castlemartyr last Saturday morning, for a blitz and with 19 players we had 3 teams competing. The standard was very high with teams from Youghal, Midleton & Kilta Og also in attendance. On a great morning for hurling the lads and lady did excellently and really enjoyed their morning and great fun too of course. Thanks to Rebel Og for organising a great mornings hurling and Castlemartyr GAA club for hosting the blitz. Thanks as always to the coaches, parents and supporters who also travel to cheer on the kids and adding to the positive atmosphere.

Our U11s made the trip to Brinny also on Saturday morning to take on Valley Rovers in a 15 a side match. Played on a lovely warm morning, where the sunshine even made a reappearance, the lads went toe to toe with a good Valley Rovers team. The lads played excellently throughout, from one to fifteen, once again displaying a very high skill level with terrific scores, lovely passing and the ability to block and hook when not in possession. They led well at halftime but got really tested in the second half and it was great to see them dig in, defend under a lot of pressure and hold out for the win, the game ending Watergrasshill 6-4, Valley Rovers 3-6. A notable mention of Ryan Kavanagh who played in his ever game of hurling, since joining up with the team Ryan has developed the skills tremendously and is a great asset to this team. Well done boys, a great performance.

Hard luck to Cork U20’s

Last weekend the Cork U20’s run to an All-Ireland title came up short against Tipperary. A blistering start by Tipp made it an uphill battle for Cork to eat into the lead and despite battling hard to get back into the game, Tipp maintained their lead and ran out winners in the end. Our own Shane O Regan can hold his head up high after a great year with Cork. He has won many new admirers and received great plaudits during the championship. The club is very proud of Shane’s achievement’s and we wish him well for the rest of the year with club and division. Well done Shane.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Glenville footballers who beat Mitchelstown in the County Intermediate Football Championship last Sunday on a score line of 1-14 to 0-12pts. It was an outstanding team performance. No rest though and next up in the Championship is Dromtarriffe to be played Saturday August 31st @ 6.30pm in Ballyclough. Please show your support and best of luck lads.

Coaches Training

Last week Martin Fogarty from Kilkenny visited Watergrasshill GAA club to give a coaches coaching session. Martin is the National Hurling Development Manager with the GAA and is tasked with development, promotion and growth of hurling across the 32 counties. By God you couldn’t get a more passionate man in this position. Listening to him speak about hurling and coaching of hurling was infectious. We had 50 coaches present from both hurling and camogie and from within the club and from neighbouring clubs. It was great evening of learning with plenty of laughs along the way to. Sincere thanks to Martin for travelling down and spending the few hours spreading the hurling gospel. Thanks to our clubmate Noel McCarthy for organising the evening and to members of our U16’s who did the session under Martins tutelage. A great evenings work.
