Club Social

All roads lead to the Vienna Woods this Saturday night March 2nd , for our eagerly awaited club social. Together with Watergrasshill Ladies Football and Camogie club, at the Vienna Woods Hotel. It’s a night very much focused on getting our community together for an enjoyable evening but we also want to recognise the terrific achievements of both the adult men and ladies teams in 2018, when, Junior B Men’s County & East Cork Championship Titles, Junior B Men's County League Title,  Ladies Camogie Junior A Championship & League Cup and the Ladies Junior Football Championship Title were won.

On the night we also want to honour the victorious 1968 Watergrasshill Junior B East Cork hurling Champions, captained by the great Eamon Ryan. On this occasion it was the Hill’s third East Cork Junior B Hurling Title. In the final, played at Clonmult Memorial Park, Midleton, we enjoyed a comprehensive 4-10 to 0-0 win over Fr O’Neills. Our opponents on the day were favourites after good wins over Midleton and Ballincurra in earlier rounds, but our lads, battle hardened after overcoming Killeagh, Sarsfields and Erin’s Own on our way to the final, put in a great performance. There was great celebration following this win and it was even honoured by a song composed by John O’Flaherty entitled “The Champions Who Beat The O’Neills”

Tickets are still available for Saturday night, priced at €35 (contact any club committee member), we would love to see you there!

Results & Fixtures

Our Intermediate team made their competitive start to 2019 last Sunday, with a league game away to Dungourney. The teams were all square at halftime on a score line of 9pts to 1-6, but a strong second half performance from the home side had them run out winners on a score line of 20pts to Watergrasshills 1-12. Next up is Milford, next Sunday at home in the Hill at 3pm. Please come along and support the team.

Watergrasshill V Kerry

On Friday 22nd last, an U15 Watergrasshill outfit (with a few U16’s) travelled to the Kingdom to play a challenge game against the Kerry u15 development squad. The game finished Watergrasshill 1-5 to Kerry 2-11. In very windy conditions the teams played three periods of 20 minutes. The team were held scoreless for the first two periods as the rustiness showed. They really took off in the third period, Brendan Lehane putting 5 points over the bar and Rory Leahy scoring the goal, and keeping their hosts scoreless. Overall a great day out for the lads, coming up against the pick of 8 Kerry club teams and putting in the display they did. A credit to their club. A special word of thanks to the management of the Kerry development squad for inviting us along for the challenge game. There's some serious talent in that team. The set up in John Mitchell's club in Tralee is seriously impressive.

Squad: Davan Sullivan, Ben Whelan, Darragh Casey, Joseph O Riordan, Ryan Murray, Brendan Lehane, Colm O Regan, Eoghan Knaap, Donal Sheehan, Sam Dennehy, Michael O Driscoll, Cian Cronin O Neill, Conor Kroll, Rory Leahy, Donagh Burke, David Moore, Ciaran O Leary, Liam Foley
Mentors: Derek Casey, Andrew O Callaghan, Michael Moore, Donal Lehane
